DHT Inhibitors

The presence of DHT, other wise known as dihydrotestosterone in the hair follicles is what causes them to first of all be less productive and which eventually will kill them off. There are many products out there which work by inhibiting its action. There are topical treatments such as Revivogen, Crinogen and Xandrox. However these reduce  the presence of DHT only in the scalp region unlike products such as Propecia or Avodart.
Revivogen claims that it works by inhibiting the 5-alpha reductase enzyme that converts the bodies natural testosterone into DHT . However it has not undergone full clinical trials though there are no reported side effects according to  the Hair Loss Learning Center. It contains saw palmetto, a popular hair loss product.

Crinogen is suitable for both men and women unlike some other products.

Progesterone creams are available for women in 1 or 2% topical applications. Higher doses may affect the menstrual cycle. they is applied to the palms of the hands from where it is absorbed. These creams may prevent further loss, but do not cause hair regrowth.

Xandrox, which contains Minoxidil , is available on prescription only. Occasionally there are problems with itching after use. There is a type available which does not casue this problem ,but it is a steroid, so may have other consequences.
Hair Genesis claims to contain natural DHT blockers, but the relevant web site does not list its ingredients. However it has undergone scientific testing which came to the conclusion that 60% of participants had seen some improvement.

Rogaine, the brand name for Minoxidil, is probably the best known of the DHT inhibitors and is approved by the FDA in both its male and female forms.
