Hair Loss Pill
On an average day the average scalp looses between 50 and 150 hairs. Baldness results when the number of hairs shed exceeds the number of new
ones that grow. There are all sorts of treatments available and some come in tablet form.
The commonest types of hair loss are inherited, and for these Regaine is one well known tablet. The company claims that for 4 out of 5 men their
extra strength medication will stabilise hair loss. 2 out of 5 grew hair satisfactorily after 48 weeks . that might seem like slow progress, but
hair grows slowly. The problem is that if you stop taking the medication, which is relatively expensive, your pattern of hair loss will revert.
Some people experience skin irritation with this drug.
Saw Palmetto is a herbal treatment available in tablet form. It has no known side effects. A double blind test in 2002 showed marked improvement
in 60 % of people as compared with 11% taking placebo’s. Because it is a herbal preparation there may be some variation in strength of individual
products. It is not controlled by the Drug Administration as it is considered a food supplement.
Propecia is another oral medication much promoted, but for some, less than 2%, there are irreversible side effects such as impotence or inability
to maintain an erection.
These are only a sample of the treatments available.
So you see there are a number of treatments available, but, as so often, there are pros and cons with each one. If in doubt, or unsure of the
exact cause of your hair loss, consult your doctor before beginning treatment.
