Herbal Hair Loss Products

Like many of us you may not want to use strong chemicals on your hair. There are many alternatives available, some of them herbal products which have been proven over many years and which do not have the possible side effects of other products. However, because many of these are considered to be food supplements rather than drugs they may not have received the scientific scrutiny that drugs such as Finasteride have had. Read labels carefully however as some products that claim to be herbal may only contain a trace of the herb e.g. ginko biloba, together with a lot of other ingredients.

Saw palmetto, or seranoa repens, is a herbal treatment. It was originally used as a food stuff by indigenous people in the West Indies. It has been found to be effective in reducing the size of the prostate gland when this has enlarged benignly and the hormones produced by this gland will produce androgenetic baldness in those who have inherited it. The berries contain sterols which are thought to interfere with the action of testosterone.

China and India have long used a variety of herbal treatments for baldness. These seem mostly to be stimulants of some sort such as ginko biloba, or may contain trace elements that you need. The problem with all herbal products is that they may vary in strength slightly from batch to batch, because they are not made to the strict formulas that chemical factory products are, but from natural plants that may vary slightly in potency. Some would see this as a major problem, but there is almost certainly little cause for alarm as these herbs have been used for many years by large numbers of people..

There are products containing tea tree and aloe vera that are sold as hair loss products. These will both give you healthy hair and scalp, but neither will actually induce new hair to grow.

A popular ingredient of herbal remedies is extract of nettles. There has been little research on this, though again it is said to be effective in the reduction of benign prostate gland enlargement. It seems that it works best in conjunction with other treatments.

They may well be lots of other herbal treatments that I haven’t mentioned. I can only suggest you look around, enter a chat room perhaps, and see what others say before paying out.
